Q. Why should I hire you?
I am dedicated to completing my work in a way that helps you connect with your audience and gives you useful tools to help you bring your writing to the next level.
I have studied developmental editing with the Editorial Arts Academy, the Editorial Freelance Association, and from professionals at writers conferences and workshops.
I spent time on the acquisitions team for a publisher. I analyzed manuscripts for publishing suitability and whether they fit the publisher's criteria. I observed patterns of what made a story engaging and what caused me to lose interest. These are things I can help you address before you submit and/or publish.
I've spent over a decade attending writers conferences, using them as opportunities to study the crafts of writing and editing, as well as aways to prepare books for publishing and marketing.
I've spent over a decade participating in writing critique groups, exchanging feedback with other writers. This has helped me not only become a better writer, but has also taught me how to give feedback that is actually useful and helpful to writers.
I hold a BA in Humanities. My studies involved analysis of literature, mythology, (and even some rather famous works of fantasy and science fiction. I also studied history, various art forms, some philosophy, and cross-overs between science and the humanities, all of which could come in handy with various story contexts.
I have an aptitude for analysis and pattern recognition. This comes in handy for evaluating story structure and catching plot holes and other consistency issues. At the same time, I feel that the reader's emotional engagement is important. It keeps them reading and wanting more. It can even be life-changing. I have found that well-crafted story structure combined with solid, authentic characterization can create a profound emotional impact.
I've spent time researching psychology. This understanding helps lend depth, relatability, and believability to characterization.
I love helping other writers find ways to make their stories into something they're happy with and ready to send into the world. I'll be cheering you on!
